Meet Zooko Wilcox: The Cypherpunk Who Built Zcash

Zooko Wilcox is the American computer security specialist who co-founded Zcash ($ZEC), a cryptocurrency that uses zero-knowledge proofs to hide transaction details. He ran the Electric Coin Company (ECC) from 2015 to December 2023.

Today he is Chief Product Officer at Shielded Labs, a donation-funded Zcash support group based in Switzerland.

Who is Zooko Wilcox?

Wilcox was born Bryce Wilcox on May 13, 1974, in Phoenix, Arizona. He earned a computer science degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1998. He calls himself a cypherpunk, meaning a person who uses cryptography to protect privacy.
