Metis Launches Hyperion Testnet With $400K Rewards and AI Focus

Metis officially launched the Hyperion testnet, marking a key step in a four-month campaign designed to shift from testing to a fully operational mainnet. Unlike typical testnets, Hyperion focuses on building real value for developers, AI builders, and the broader ecosystem. The campaign offers $400,000 in incentives for developers and community participants.

Hyperion Testnet: AI and Real-Time dApp Focus

Hyperion specifically supports AI-native and high-performance decentralized applications. Its design includes parallel execution and a decentralized sequencer network. These technical features allow fast transaction processing, reducing latency for real-time apps like high-frequency trading platforms and AI tools.

Additionally, Hyperion introduces infrastructure tailored for artificial intelligence. This includes inference engine optimization and AI coprocessor acceleration. These advancements help AI developers deploy on-chain applications more efficiently. Metis maintains full compatibility with Ethereum, allowing smooth transfers of assets and data between networks.

“HyperHack” and Builder Incentives

As part of the launch, Metis introduced the “HyperHack” hackathon. It runs for three months and offers $200,000 in prizes for AI and real-time dApp builders. Developers also receive “Builder Badges,” recognizing their contributions and unlocking further rewards. Another event, called “Battle Test,” encourages community-led stress testing of the network.

Forum participants can earn “Sage Rewards” by engaging with ecosystem-related discussions. Together, these events aim to strengthen both community engagement and technical resilience.

Hyperion complements Metis’ existing Layer 2 network, Andromeda. While Andromeda supports general-purpose decentralized applications, Hyperion targets AI, gaming, and decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN). Both networks use the METIS token, offering a unified economic model across the ecosystem.

Developers can use the Metis Software Development Kit (SDK) to deploy across both chains. This provides more flexibility when scaling different types of applications.

Metis’s Hyperion Roadmap Aligns With AI Market Expansion

Hyperion follows a phased development plan. The testnet began in February 2025 and runs through April. This phase lets developers trial new features in a live environment. The second stage, scheduled between May and August, will transition Hyperion to mainnet. The final upgrade phase is planned from September through December, aimed at improving performance and adding more decentralization tools.

This timeline coincides with rapid expansion in the artificial intelligence industry. Statista’s 2024 forecast projects the global AI market to grow from $184 billion in 2024 to $243 billion in 2025, reaching $826 billion by 2030. As demand increases, blockchain infrastructure optimized for AI is expected to play a key role in hosting intelligent applications,>

velopers building for the AI era. The network’s modular structure and support for real-time execution provide a foundation for scaling intelligent systems on-chain. Hyperion’s roadmap reflects this shift, giving developers access to tools that match the performance and speed required for next-generation decentralized applications.
